Somalia: Libertarian paradise

CQ Politics called my attention to this funny video from "The Public Service Administration" taking a light-hearted look at libertarianism in action.

The video description on You Tube gives a couple of amazing links documenting libertarian praise for life in "government free" Somalia. The tea party crowd sees this anarchy as a model for human "freedom" even though life would be "short, nasty and brutish." Hat tip to Tom Hobbes.

Somalia is not government free. It is ruled by a collection of warlords. Just because they don't have embassies and flags does not mean they aren't sovereign. Its just that Somalia has degraded beyond such formalities.

Please liberals, please keep attacking us libertarians.

That's exactly what we Right libertarians want you all to do.

You see, we have a weak link in our movement; They're called liberal libertarians or left libertarians. They feel more comfortably culturally with the Democrats. Some of them even supported Obama.

But it's stuff like this that will really make them think twice about any alliances with the left, and likely to push them into our welcoming libertarian Republican arms.

So, keep up the bashes on the libertarian movement!

Right Democrat, your assessment is incorrect. A key libertarian concept is non-coercion, which is the antithesis of Somali warlords.

Anarchy and libertarianism are not the same. Except for anarcho-inspired libertarians, libertarians believe in LIMITED government (i.e., government protecting individual liberty, rule of law, etc.) and not NO government.

Somalia is central government free, so it should be a libertarian paradise. Such a libertarian paradise also existed in North America before the European invasion.

In order for a nation to be truly government free, it needs to be devoid of humans:-)

But societies without a central government are usually called feudal societies. And that's what Somalia truly is.

Yeah, I was probably being a little too hard on the more mainstream libertarians. There are some pretty wacko anti-government folks out there who would view Somalia as a role model. Check out these links:
