The following is a communication that I received from Democrats for Values concerning their position on Samuel Alito's nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court:
Democrats for Values has decided not to support the Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito. Even though his views on right to life issues are more in line with what Democrats for Values would like to see in a Supreme Court Nominee -his other views are truly not. Alito's answers to questions certainly do not explain away the decisions he has made in the past against the disadvantaged and underclass. DFV believes the middle class and working poor ought to have more protection from the government, not less. DFV also believes America deserves a Supreme Court Nominee that considers protecting civil rights for all US citizens is paramount and his answers to questions about previous decisions are unsatisfactory in determining whether or not he will uphold the civil rights so many Americans have already died to protect.
We believe this Administration is putting forward a nomination to the Supreme Court with uncertainty about the nominee's views on the hot button issues such as abortion, and trying to distract the American people (and the U.S. Senate) from his other clearly radical far right views on other issues such as government regulation, discrimination, and benefits for the poor and disadvantaged. We would like you to call your senator and encourage him to vote on the confirmation of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court of the United States.
